Grandma Fortuna
grew the avocados in back
shot slingshots a lot
watch each other react
trash can lids, sit, crinkle and cracked
shot so far in space eyes couldn’t keep track
thinking of my Blue and yellow pair of parakeets
they intertwined necks peckin sunflower seeds
but one day, i heard their song stop
held my breath, lifted the floral cloth
their notes strangled inter-tangled, dead eyes
now i check around corners, avoiding surprise
cabbie leave me on avenue D
walk extra block, block “why will you leave me”?
